사회언어학이란 우리가 사는 사회 속에서 언어가 어떻게 사용되는 가를 연구하는 학문이다. 이 과목은 이러한 사회언어학에 대한 학생들의 포괄적이고도 심층적인 이해를 목표로 한다. 학생들로 하여금 사회언어학에서 다루는 다양한 학문적 주제들을 민족지학적인 관점은 물론, 인류학적인 관점에서도 고찰할 수 있는 기회를 마련함으로써 궁극적으로는 사회 언어학에 대한 학생들의 전반적이고도 깊이 있는 이해 증진의 극대화를 꾀할 것이다.

Social linguistics is a study that studies how languages are used in our communities. This subject aims at the comprehensive and in-depth understanding of students in these social language studies. By providing students with the opportunity to consider the various academic subjects of sociological linguistics, as well as the humanistic perspectives of social linguistics, the students will ultimately seek to maximize the overall and deeper understanding of the student population.
